US Currency auto placement

There has been some debate about the automobile that appeared prominently in front of the Treasury Building on the US $10 bill throughout the second half of the twentieth century. Did the engravers and artists make the car's features deliberately generic and inconsistent so as to avoid promotion of a real automobile make?
