Requested Update

Hi, I represent Public Storage and am requesting a change to the company profile on Wikipedia to more closely match the Behind the Orange Doors book/source document: [1]. It would affect 10 words at the top of the fourth paragraph. Are there any objections? The proposed change is below.

Original: According to Hughes, consumers thought "Private Storage" meant the storage units were not available to the public, so the name was changed to "Public Storage" to match the "PS" acronym already on documents and signs.

Update: According to Hughes, "Private Storage" confused people into thinking it was private, so the name was changed to “Public Storage” to match the “PS” acronym. PSA1972 (talk) 18:31, 31 December 2018 (UTC)

@Xerxel: recently added some content about a fire that took place at a Shurgard storage location in Europe. This probably seemed sensible to add here, since the Wikipedia page says Public Storage acquired Shurgard in 2006. However, as I understand it, Public Storage now owns only 35% of Shurgard,[2] which is an independently-operated company Public Storage maintains an investment in. I ask that the content be deleted from this page, since we don't ordinarily include news about every company the article-subject has invested in, but does not control. @CorporateM: The source you included to Yahoo Finance doesn't include anything about Public Storage only owning 35% of Shurgard. If you provide a reliable secondary source with that data, I'd be happy to make the change. Cheers, Daylen (talk) 00:52, 5 March 2019 (UTC)
@Daylen: Does this do the trick? It says: "Public Storage’s equity interest [in Shurgard] . . . shrunk from 49% to 36.6%." Not looking to add this information to the article, just show that Pure Storage is merely an investor in Shurgard, which is an independent entity. The fire content is also cited heavily to stuff like Facebook posts and the Shurgard website anyways, but I don't think it is actually necessary to evaluate the sources on content irrelevant to the article-subject, who does not control the entity in question.
