Looks great. Do you want to have the electorates split North/South? The list of electorates for the 2011 election is only split general/Maori. Ridcully Jack (talk) 23:37, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Doesn't really mind me if the North and South Island are split or not - probably would be easier to have all 70 electorates in one table, rather than split into three, in the Electoral Commission order (General first, then Maori, in alphabetical order), to make it easier for reading the results off when they become available. Keep/Change colours

[edit]

What RGB colours are you using for the Keep/Change graph? Ridcully Jack (talk) 04:37, 4 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I haven't fully decided yet - it's definitely green for keep and red for change, but I have yet to fully decide the exact hues because I'm unsure how we want to do it - majority answer or on a percentage scale. Lcmortensen (mailbox) 05:02, 4 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I think that there will be mostly keeps, with some deeply blue (or red?) seats as for "change". So a simple majority answer will be sufficient, but shaded on a percentage scale may be more interesting. Ridcully Jack (talk) 05:45, 6 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I have modified the map to have a colour scale legend in broad bands - 50-64%, 65-79%, and 80%+ in each of Keep and Change. We won't know the exact percentages for another month, but based on the preliminary 1993 results by electorate (which I extracted from a microform roll of the 8 November 1993 Otago Daily Times), we may not see many electorates outside the 50-65% ranges (there were only five in 1993).
Have also encoded ID tags into the electorates based on their electorate number (e01 for Auckland Central, e02 for Bay of Plenty, e63 for Wigram, e64 for Hauraki-Waikato, e70 for Waiariki, etc) into the map so it's easier to select the fiddly little electorates and select them in Inkscape using the Find command (Christchurch Central and Hamilton East were the nightmare ones).
Will upload the modified map shortly. Lcmortensen (mailbox) 20:00, 6 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
On the preliminary results, it looks like a map of preferred 'change' option will be all one colour for FPP, except for Wellington Central which bucks the trend with STV (37% of valid votes). There is quite a lot of variation (between 33% and 59% of valid votes for FPP), so some shading might be informative. Ridcully Jack (talk) 23:09, 30 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
