The entry is also incorrect because most right handed people hold the hammer in their right hand and the chisel in the left hand. It is easier to chisel right to left in this manner.

Chisel

[edit]

I removed this paragraph:

Many languages that existed before the invention of ink were written right to left since this is the more natural for right handed people to hold a chisel in the left hand and the hammer in the right. After ink became the main method of writing, writing from left to right became preferable since it avoided smudging the ink.

I saw this theory in a couple of sources, but it's only a theory and not a certain fact, and even as such it must be referenced. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 10:02, 9 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

כיוונים

[edit]

How many types of readable writing directions can exist?
The Western World is Very Left to Right in every thing: graphs, paints of animal/man/vehicle goes, etc. It is part of mind. My brother studies Painting in La Masana in Barcelona. The teacher teach that the composition is follows rightwards. Always. Because the whole human eye looks for that direction naturally. Then my Brother said it depends culture. Someone said "In Hebrew you write Right-to-left? That means that you all use left hand or a quick dry ink.".
Can my computer support Top-to-Bottom?

What directions lead the Tolkein's Writings? 84.95.230.168 (talk) 23:31, 17 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

If you have a question, look it up yourself—here, for instance. I don't think it's listed on that page, but all of Tolkein's languages are LTR, which makes sense, as he was English. Wikipedia is not a crystal ball. --Akhenaten0 (talk) 19:14, 7 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup notice

[edit]

I'm not sure how this article is like a manual or guidebook, so I'm going to boldly take that off the list of issues. If you disagree, then please post back here.

As for the other flaws, we'll work on them. But how do we determine when the improvements are "good enough" to remove items from the Multiple Issues banner?

RTL Wikipedias

[edit]

Although Kurdish can be written with right-to-left Arabic script, tapping through a few pages suggests that the Kurdî Wikipedia is mostly (wholly?) written in left-to-right Latin script.

But the Soranî version definitely looks RTL to me.

Just leaving this note in case someone gets upset about me removing Kurdish from that section, after having taken it out of another paragraph. I'm not anti-Kurdish, it's just that it isn't solely a "RTL language".

Order of items in List of RTL scripts

[edit]

Is there a logical order being followed in the 2 sub-sections of Right-to-left#List_of_RTL_scripts, or is it currently unordered? If the former, I suggest describing it in the page. If the latter, I suggest sorting them alphabetically or by ISO 15924 code. Thanks! Quiddity (talk) 00:18, 23 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of citation flags

[edit]

There are several great references cited at the bottom of this right-to-left article that make it crazy to infer the need for more citations. I favor removing both flags as they serve no real purpose. FormerTrafficCrashPupil (talk) 05:11, 2 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@FormerTrafficCrashPupil: It isn't enough to just have a couple citations in the external links section. There need to be footnotes indicating the sources of the statements in the article (for instance, that this or that script is right-to-left). But there are only two footnotes right now. — Eru·tuon 05:23, 2 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

i think i would be a good idea to add an image of Arabic/Hebrew Wikipedia, is there any opponents? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.138.175.199 (talk) 12:07, 30 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Move

[edit]

At risk of being too bold, I think I'm going to move this to "Right to left script" – the title right now feels incomplete. Let me know if this is a mistake. Kokopelli7309 (talk) 13:58, 12 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
