Lead
- "in anticipation" implies he had prior knowledge or expectation of the papal brief which is not addressed in the body. If there are no sources to that effect, I suggest replacing with "before learning".
- I've corrected the phrasing. Ergo Sum 18:34, 12 July 2020 (UTC)
- "monastery" – most readers know what a monastery is, consider unlinking to avoid having too many unhelpful links
- I think it's helpful because in modern English, monastery almost always refers to a community of monks (i.e. male monastics), but technically and historically could be a community of men or women. Here, it refers to a community of women, so the monastery article, which explains this, could be helpful to a reader. Ergo Sum 18:40, 12 July 2020 (UTC)
- "Brussels" – add Belgium, also in the body
- At the time, there was no Belgium, and Brussels was part of the Austrian Netherlands. Added to the body. Ergo Sum 18:44, 12 July 2020 (UTC)
Early life
- "Colleges of St Omer and Liège" → "College of St Omer, Bruges, Belgium," – Source says "educated at St. Omer's and Bruges 1763–1768". Our article on the college says it moved to Liège in 1773 which is after he left
- Thank you for catching this. I've fixed the typo. It should have read St Omer and Bruges. Ergo Sum 18:50, 12 July 2020 (UTC)
- "and seven other passengers" – seems completely irrelevant and unnotable. No surprise that there were other passengers
- Removed. Ergo Sum 18:47, 12 July 2020 (UTC)
- File:St omer chapelle jesuites.jpg – it appears he was never in Saint-Omer, France, since the Jesuits were already kicked out in 1762. Keep the image if you feel it is still relevant.
- It's quite likely that the college's relocation was not as abrupt as its article might suggest. My understanding of its history is that the move was somewhat more gradual. Ergo Sum 18:51, 12 July 2020 (UTC)
Georgetown College
- "in seek of" → "seeking"
- "New York City" is duplinked
- "the fall of 1791" – our friends from the southern hemisphere hate when we do this (MOS:SEASON). Adding p. 461 of Guilday and p. 34 of Curran 1993 to the citation, I think we can conclude this was in "November 1791"
- on second thought better to delete "and the first students entered Georgetown in the fall of 1791". The next paragraph address this in more detail
- Agreed. Ergo Sum 19:09, 12 July 2020 (UTC)
- "the spring of 1791" → "early 1791" or "first half of 1791" is better for the Aussies and Kiwis
- "Robert Molyneux" → "Molyneux" per LASTNAME
Later missionary years
- "He later was" → "He was later", reads easier
- "pastor" seems like an unnecessary link
- For non-Catholic readers, I think it would prove useful because a pastor in the Catholic Church is very different from one in e.g. an evangelical church. Ergo Sum 19:14, 12 July 2020 (UTC)
- Old North building – "b" could be capitalized for consistency with the article, but no biggie
- "also was" → "was also", consistency with the rest of article style
- "one of whom, Louis William Valentine Dubourg, became president of the school" – makes more sense to me
- "January 15, 1815" – needs comma after it per MOS:DATECOMMA
- "crypt" – I would de-link
Notes
- "would be one day" → " would one day be"
References
- "Curran, Robert Emmett (1993)" – add via Google Books per your custom
- "Mattingly, Paul H. (Summer 2012)" – add
|issue=2
Feel free to ignore any of my stylistic suggestions. --- C&C (Coffeeandcrumbs) 17:16, 9 July 2020 (UTC)
