“Rossignol is a French word meaning nightingale.” On the other hand, rossignol is colloquial French for unsalable merchandise, by implication a piece of junk. One wonders how the French maker of ski equipment selected such an ambiguous name that would not recommend itself highly to native (or even moderately fluent) speakers of French.
