If the aim of the STANAG itself can't be used to describe the STANAG (through close paraphrasing), maybe something like this could be written: "STANAG 6022 is the latest step ref. http://nigelef.tripod.com/fc_meteor.htm in artillery meteorological messaging, which provides for gridded meteorological data. This means that instead of representing a single balloon ascent and local data, using such older STANAGs as 4082, it provides a grid of data in four dimensions – vertical, two horizontal and time that may be compiled from many data sources including improved forecasting. The basic area of coverage in, for example, the UK implementation is 60 km × 60 km, divided into cubes however the METGM can be set to varying sizes depending on needs. A particular benefit of this approach is that it provides data that is more representative of the trajectory and different data will be used can be used along the trajectory. However, the data is only available as a data file and this means that it can only be distributed through data communications with a means of transferring it to a fire control computer. Current release of the NATO Armaments Ballistic Kernel (NABK), can be used to compute trajectories using METGM. This four dimensional meteor grid using data from many sources removes the need for local data acquisition. It can also be used with gun locating radars to improve the accuracy of their results or in support of Chemical Biological, Radiological and Nuclear calculations for downwind hazards and plume prediction.
