[edit]The sleep found in one's eye is apparently NOT mucopurulent discharge unless it has pus in it as a result of, e.g., conjunctivitis. Otherwise I believe it is referred to as "gound", although I'm unsure what it is medically speaking.
Read the article on mucopurulent discharge of the eye for starters. That is where the claim is made. I'd make a link but I'm an anonymous n00b so...
