Load Time[edit]
Slicing breaks up one large image into many smaller ones, which reduces "page weight" or load time considerably. Someone slapped this with a citation-needed, but I think it's plain wrong and should be deleted. Having more files to load increases load time, because there's a considerable overhead per HTTP request. Number of files has a greater impact on load time than file sizes. That's one reason why slicing isn't regarded as a good practice anymore.--87.162.11.91 (talk) 16:31, 15 September 2009 (UTC)
- You are half correct, it *might* increase the "page weight" but the load time decreases since modern browsers download multiple files at the same time which is optimal for fast connections (doesn't work so good with old dial-up connections though). 195.23.28.141 (talk) 15:09, 28 September 2009 (UTC)
