{{Inquiry/Request for Information}} Although there is a reference to the Slingbox in the appropriate section, is there any affiliation, or was the naming just a grab of a recognizable name to boost search engine ratings? There is no mention in the article.

Sling brands

Do I understand correctly that Sling TV and Sling Media, the company behing the Slingbox are entirely unrelated businesses? The Seventh Taylor (talk) 11:28, 2 May 2015 (UTC)

Geographic availability

There is no mention here about where Sling TV is available. They also don't state it on their web site, but clearly only allow sign up using a US address. Haryadoon (talk) 08:00, 13 November 2015 (UTC)

Define "catch-up programming"

Should this article include a definition of the term "catch-up programming" in the sentence "Sling TV also features video on demand ("VOD") content, including catch-up programming from the channels carried on the service...."? I was able to find it by visiting https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_on_demand#Catch_up_TV, but the average reader doesn't want to play detective to figure out what some industry jargon means - they expect it right in the article, or at least a link to the relevant page/section. Specifically, I wasn't clear if it meant "shows that aired in the past few days that you may have missed" or "previous seasons so you aren't lost when you start watching a show that's already been on a few seasons." 2602:306:C468:1320:58BB:3841:863B:9BCB (talk) 00:34, 5 January 2016 (UTC)

Pricing breakdown.

Hi guys,

The pricing was listed in the style of an advert, and was lumped together into obtuse packages that concealed the actual cost of each set of channels.

The only reason an encyclopedia has to list prices at all is to aid in contemporary and historical cost analysis (which is of great interest given the current transitional state of television delivery). For this reason, I broke the prices and packages down into their component parts.

Base Package should be removed

There's no evidence or citation to prove such a thing exists. Encyclopedias should not include fiction. -- 21:05, 6 March 2018 (UTC) Theaveng (talk) 21:05, 6 March 2018 (UTC)

Cleaned this part up to remove this. Msw1002 (talk) 06:38, 8 March 2018 (UTC)

Name spelling and ownership

Some proposed changes

Please correct the spelling of DISH to all caps, as it is published in all of their marketing and investor relations materials. (http://ir.dish.com)

Please also correct the 2nd paragraph under History to reflect the correct ownership of Sling (http://about.dish.com/Paddy-Rao).

The OTT service was officially unveiled as Sling TV on January 5, 2015, in a presentation at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas;[10] the service is co-branded with the Sling entity, which also co-branded and provided placeshifting technology for the provider's Hopper with Sling multi-room DVR system.KABM (talk) 17:10, 5 June 2018 (UTC)

no Declined

  1. As the article is called Dish Network, and the all-capitalization is arguably a company design issue, either would be acceptable. The overriding concern here is consistency, and that consistency already seems established with the lower-case version. Changing all of them over to caps would benefit from a discussion first, to gauge the consensus.
  2. You're correct that ownership of a company is important information that needs to be reflected accurately. Please indicate how this correct ownership may be better reflected in the prose, and I assure you it will be implemented.
  3. The information on the OTT service is not referenced. It contains a reference note ([10]) but this note is not linked to any references on the talk page. Please add any references which exist in the main article space but are not visible here, on the talk page.
  4. Additional maintenance templates were added to the article. Specifically, the article's length and its number of WikiLinks for a company that is only 3 years old is the main concern. The article already contains category headers placed at the bottom which consist of links to many of the companies already WL'ed throughout the article, creating a redundancy.
  5. The length of certain sections, such as History, should be reduced. This section contains lengthy details on the important, but basically run-of-the-WP:MILL programming-type decisions which any media company makes every day. These details should be summarized, which will reduce the number of companies being mentioned and thus reduce the number of WL's used.

When ready to proceed with the above requested information, kindly open a new edit request. Thank you!  spintendo  23:30, 5 June 2018 (UTC)

sling tv and slingbox confusion

So there's no relation between Sling TV and Slingbox/Sling Media? Should this be mentioned somewhere in the article to avoid confusion (as many people I know seem to think they're part of the same entity due to the services they provide being loosely related in some ways), or maybe in the 'see also' section? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Word dewd544 (talkcontribs) 16:43, 16 July 2018 (UTC)

The Sling logo/brand refreshed over a year ago. Need to update with the new logo 216.201.191.22 (talk) 23:07, 14 November 2022 (UTC)
