Pre-Code[edit]

I've no desire to get into a big dispute about this, but I don't think the term "Pre-Code" applies to "Smilin' Through". While the editor RMS125a is technically correct that any pre-1934 film is from the era prior to the enforcement of the Motion Picture Code, I think that's a simplstic and overly literal use of the term. I believe that the term "Pre-code" is generally used to refer to movies with violent, sexual or other content that is prohibited by the code, making those films unique to their time as they could not have been made after 1934 without major alterations. Of course I was not on the review committee, but given that Smilin' Through's plot and screenplay are nearly identical to its post-code 1941 remake, I doubt it would have been significantly affected by the code had it been made a couple of years later. I'd be very interested to hear from other editors on this topic. Cheers, Markhh (talk) 21:26, 28 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
