Iron carbonyl example

[edit]

I'm shocked how wrong the energy diagram is. Fe(0) is a d^8 system, hence the diagrams should contain 8 rather than 6 electrons. Then you would actually get triplets as correctly stated in the text. Finally, the pentacarbonyl complex has the wrong splitting pattern (the actual geometry is trigonal bipyramidal, not square pyramidal). 2A00:8A60:C010:1:0:0:1:126E (talk) 13:02, 2 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The comment is absolutely justified. The problem is an incorrect combination of different contents from reference 6 and 7. The occupation scheme presented refers to reference 6, which mainly deals with Fe(II) complexes. Reference 7, on the other hand, describes the reaction behavior of photogenerated, homoleptic Fe(0)-carbonyl compounds. The author should urgently correct this error. The article could be generalized. What about 2+2 cycloadditions? What about non reaction of O2 with hydrocarbons.--Smokefoot (talk) 00:09, 3 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
