Perhaps we should rename this article

to Urban Route 31, which would leave SH17 as a redirect, and reword the lead to emphasize that it was formerly designated SH17? — Jon (talk) 22:22, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This may extend to a wider scope of New Zealand highways generally. There is precedent with the Inland Kaikōura Road (Route 70) and Inland Scenic Route (Route 72) articles, which used to be SH 70 and SH 72 repectively. I've already done the groundwork to use the white route shields using UR (for "urban route"; some of them aren't urban, obviously, but most of them are in Auckland) - e.g. Route 31Jon (talk) 21:42, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. State highway is a much more notable highway status than an urban route, even after its designation has been revoked. There is a significant lack of sources for the Auckland urban route network. It can receive a mention in the article but that does not justify the full rename of the article. With regards to the former state highways of 70 and 72, those are names of official touring routes. Ajf773 (talk) 08:57, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
