Disambiguating University at Buffalo and Buffalo State

Should this page simply redirect to University at Buffalo, or is there enough confusion between University at Buffalo and Buffalo State College that this page should remain a disambiguation page with both schools listed? I think it should redirect to the University at Buffalo. Whose official name is the State University of New York at Buffalo. (Which already redirects to the University at Buffalo page). Same with SUNY Buffalo. And State University of New York Buffalo and SUNY Buffalo without the dash redirects to the University at Buffalo page already. The whole point of a disambiguation page is to cure ambiguity. The official name of Buffalo State College is "State University of New York College at Buffalo", which is enough like this - sufficiently ambiguous - to warrant disambiguation. How? With both names on the page it will create confusion. If State University of New York at Buffalo is the official name , and already redirects to University at Buffalo why would this page only with an added dash be any different? State University of New York Buffalo , without the at or dash also redirects to the University at Buffalo, and is also used as their athletics logos and on their team jerseys. This page isn't named State University Of New York College at Buffalo either, there two different names and schools. The editor who made this page first created it as a redirect then edited it as a disambiguation, but that's because the wiki page for University at Buffalo never listed its official name correctly.

The official names of the two schools are "State University of New York College at Buffalo" (Buffalo State College) and "State University of New York at Buffalo" (SUNY-Buffalo). These names are confusing and a dab page is helpful. Now - perhaps I'm wrong, and perhaps a DAB page isn't the right approach, but your edit-warring to put your preferred version in place on a page that has existed in its present form for 3 years, is not the way to go about it. How do I find people to read this page, how did you find it?? The main point is without the dash both of those pages already redirect to the University at Buffalo corrrectly, as it should. Its also its official name which similar or not the university page has a link to Buffalo State College on top already (disambiguation). University at Buffalo is State University of New York at Buffalo and SUNY Buffalo. Buffalo state college is not.AlaskanNativeRU (talk) 15:57, 9 July 2015 (UTC)

I can see a need for these two disambiguation pages. While I understand the point you're making, AlaskanNativeRU, I do think that there's a lot of people who aren't as familiar with the distinction between UB and Buffalo State, especially since UB doesn't use its official name for publicity purposes. If it helps, we can clarify on the disambiguation page itself that the official name of UB is "State University of New York at Buffalo." Would that be a reasonable middle ground?

This does, however, beg the question. We should go for consistency. In that case, perhaps the names without the dashes should also lead to (most likely the same) disambiguation page? So "State University of New York at Buffalo" should clearly redirect to the University at Buffalo page since that's the full official name, but "State University of New York Buffalo", since it's not the official name of the campus and is also similar to Buffalo State's full name, should go to the disambiguation page, no? I feel that would be a mistake and only cause confusion. This page practically should be deleted or redirect to UBs page. And the SUNY Buffalo page with the dash should do the same. They both mean UB. Even online outside the realm of wikipedia you will always find that SUNY Buffalo and State University of New York Buffalo always refer to UB. Buffalo State is known as State University of New York College at Buffalo and SUNY Buffalo State College. Those I feel are different enough and the universitys themselves should have a disambiguation on top, as they do now. What if this page was called State University of New York College Buffalo and the other SUNY Buffalo State? And then we added a disambiguation for both college's, it just doesn't make sense.AlaskanNativeRU (talk) 17:12, 10 July 2015 (UTC)
