merge

[edit]

there's much overlap between the two. Fgnievinski (talk) 06:29, 15 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Agree with a merger. The contents of this article should be merged into submarine volcano. Vsmith (talk) 13:53, 21 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Volcanoguy: Would you mind saying why you seem to oppose the merger? [1],[2]. Thanks. Fgnievinski (talk) 00:16, 22 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I oppose a merger simply because not all submarine eruptions come from submarine volcanoes. Submarine eruptions can also occur when lava tubes empty into oceans from subaerial volcanoes, especially those forming islands. Volcanoguy 12:27, 22 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thans for weighing in. Do you agree there's currently excessive overlap between the two articles? How about if Would Submarine eruption becomes a disambiguation page for Non-volcanic submarine eruption and Submarine volcanoes and their eruptions? Fgnievinski (talk) 13:01, 22 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
What exactly is a "non-volcanic submarine eruption"? A quick Google search for "submarine eruption" indicates that the volcanic phenomenon is the WP:Primary topic. So moving the article title to create a disambiguation page would be unnecessary. What is the point of creating an article about submarine volcanoes and their eruptions? The submarine volcano article has lots of room for expansion. Volcanoguy 17:50, 22 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
You're not addressing the undesirable duplication between submarine volcano and submarine eruption. As you said, submarine eruptions not from submarine volcanoes is a secondary topic. These could be described in submarine eruptions so long as there's a hatnote stating {{for|the most common origin of submarine eruptions|Submarine volcanoes and their eruptions}}. (BTW: subaerial volcano is missing). Fgnievinski (talk) 18:21, 22 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
How common are underwater lava tubes eruptions from subaerial eruptions? Such exceptions could easily be covered with a note in a merged Submarine volcano article. Seems rather hair splitting stuff. And when a submarine volcano breaks the surface and a new island is born (sometimes only temporary) and continues with both submarine and subaerial eruptions...
