Marriages

I've just had a look at the new NYC Marriage Index site, which covers 1950-1995. There is an entry for Sylvia Belle Miles and Ted Brown, Manhattan Borough, 1963, but I'm not finding her 1952 marriage to Gerald Price. (Much less the supposed first marriage to William Miles, which predates 1950, of course.) Perhaps Price and Miles married outside New York. Incidentally, the Internet Broadway Database says Miles and Price divorced in 1958, not 1960 as the WP Infobox currently states. Muzilon (talk) 01:47, 2 January 2017 (UTC)

I agree -- the first two alleged marriages are unconfirmable, although the second one (to Price) is referenced here, but that far from makes it certain. That could easily be recycled incorrect information The third is indisputable. The first two can both be tagged {{dubious}} for sure. Quis separabit? 02:37, 2 January 2017 (UTC)

Year of birth remains disputed

Attempting to gauge Miles' year of birth is extremely difficult and there is no reason to believe 1932 is accurate, coming from publicity or guesswork. I have read 1923 and 1926 citations. Maybe someone can get the info from the new tool which is Ancestry.com. I did find a Belle Fellman (her mother's name) who died in 1983 there. Quis separabit? 17:07, 30 April 2012 (UTC)

On Ancestry.com I have checked all permutations of her and her parents' names (Reuben Lee and Belle Fellman-Lee, according to a Google search) on the 1930 and 1940 US censuses, and I can't find anything. Sah10406 (talk) 15:24, 9 March 2016 (UTC)

Hi, Sah10406. She claimed her parents' names were Reuben and Belle. (I may have been wrong about the Fellman part.) Even if these were their names, ancestry.com can't help because we don't know Miles' birth name. Even her third husband, following an acrimonious divorce in which he had every reason to want to spill the beans, claimed he had no idea how old she was or what her real name was. Some old travel manifests on ancestry.com do mention a Sylvia Miles from Greenwich Village, where she reportedly was raised. One from 1950 gives her age as 22 indicating a 1928 year of birth; another (I forget the year), indicates 1924/1925 as the year of birth. If this is even the same Sylvia Miles. Ugh. Hello Quis separabit?. I saw those two manifests. They are from journeys just months apart in 1950, but both give different ages... Sylvia Miles' address at that time according to the manifests is 11 Waverly Place. I checked that building on the 1940 US census (Enumeration District 31-900), and I don't see any likely person or family at that time. It's a huge building with 160 apartments, mostly single people and couples, so she probably moved there as an adult. I suppose some investigative journalist could try ordering a copy of her 1963 marriage certificate. A full New York marriage certificate should (in theory) state the bride's age and maiden name. (Although her husband, Ted Brown, apparently claimed he never found out either of those details.) Muzilon (talk) 08:55, 6 January 2017 (UTC)
