Please edit Candidates and results > Elections in 2020s > Michael Chua – link is to incorrect individual (film producer not the politician) as there is only one entry for that name. Can someone correct that please? Thanks. otterman (talk) 11:13, 7 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

PAP MPs with more than one appointment

[edit]

Hello, in recent months @Bringyouaway: (first editing under a IP and subsequently this account) added to all the PAP-led GRC pages that the constituency is led by the relevant cabinet minister and one or two others. Unfortunately, due to the numerous appointments some individuals hold, this has resulted in sentences like:

Tanjong Pagar GRC are helmed by Minister in the Prime Minister's Office, Second Minister of Finance and National Development Indranee Rajah and Minister for Trade and Industry Chan Chun Sing.

East Coast GRC is led by Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Heng Swee Keat. Heng is also the Coordinating Minister for Economic Policies. He co-leads with Maliki Osman, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, Second Minister of Foreign Affairs and Second Minister of Education.

Tampines GRC is led by both Social and Family Development Minister, Second Health Minister (and Minister in-charge of Muslim Affairs) Masagos Zulkifli with Senior Minister of State from the Ministry of Health (Singapore) Dr Koh Poh Koon where Koh was moved from Ang Mo Kio GRC after his Yio Chu Kang Division is being crafted out to be a SMC for the 2020 General Election.

I find this extremely convoluted and messy. When Lee Hsien Loong was finance minister between 2001 and 2007, news media certainly did not call him "Prime Minister and Finance Minister Lee". Neither is Heng Swee Keat referred to as "Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Heng Swee Keat". Editorial-wise, the media refers to whichever appointment is appropriate within the context of the story.

I propose a) we remove all the appointments from all the names or b) we retain only their highest cabinet appointment. For senior ministers, we should use that appointment unless we are dealing with the specific period where they were a minister for a specific agency.
