Although, I am not sure if it still exists there was an actual tea house on Okinawa called the Tea House of the August Moon. When I was stationed at Naha AFB it was used extensively for going away parties for airmen going home. Does anyone know if it is still there?

My parents were stationed in Okinawa from 1955-1956 and we grew up watching slide shows of their visits to the Tea House of the August Moon. As a young girl I was fascinated by the images Geisha girls doing their traditional dances. I too would love to know it if still exists and which came first - the Tea House or the broadway play.

Off Limits

When I was at Naha in 1966-67, the Teahouse of the August Moon was off-limits to American military personnel. It had become a traditional Japanese teahouse and was only open to Japanese men. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 206.54.199.8 (talk) 20:32, 25 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
