A disambiguation page is needed for TROS, tros. I found a disambiguation page for Tros but it is still very confusing. This page uses TROS and the TROS page does not reference the disambiguation page at all. --DaleDe (talk) 01:10, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Function?

[edit]

@ACaesarSalad: The new text Later applications include the Bell Laboratories Model 6 computer and the IBM System/360 Model 20 and Model 40 to subroutines (also known as functions). doesn't seem to make much sense; I suspect that something got dropped between Model 40 and subroutine. -- Shmuel (Seymour J.) Fixed. Thank you for catching that. ACaesarSalad (talk) 03:59, 10 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
But what does the TROS pn the 2040 have to do with running subroutines? Rgw microde in TROS was used to
  1. Simulate the S/360 instructions
  2. Implement I/O channels
  3. Implement IPL
  4. Run diagnostics
The closest connection to subroutines that I can think of is that the S/360 simulation included BAL and BALR. -- Shmuel (Seymour J.) Metz Username:Chatul (talk) 21:15, 10 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I recall adding it in due to the original introduction also including it. It can be removed if deemed incorrect. ACaesarSalad (talk) 21:28, 10 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That text was never in the article prior to your edit. I believe that it came from a paper that related to the Bell Model VI relay computer and not to the IBM System/360. How about Later applications include the Bell Laboratories Model VI computer to run subroutines (also known as functions), and implementing the architecture of the IBM System/360 on the Model 20[a] and Model 40.? Is there a paper on the Bell Model VI relay computer that is not behind a paywall? -- Shmuel (Seymour J.) Metz Username:Chatul (talk) 11:43, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I've deleted the "to run subroutines (also known as functions)" part for now to make sure the information is at least somewhat correct on the article while I research into the Model VI computer. There are some articles on IEEE that have some information.
I don't recall the "run subroutines" coming from a Bell Model VI paper though. I'll have to check through the references used. ACaesarSalad (talk) 16:15, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Notes

  1. ^ The architecture of the Model 20 is a modified subset of the full System/360 architecture.
