Type system of the Royal Navy[edit]

I do not believe that the Type 44 was assigned to the Horizon project. I'm given to understand that this type number was assigned to an earlier design which predated both Horizon and even the Nato frigate (NFR90).

According to D.K Brown's book 'Rebuilding the Royal Navy', the Type 44 was a smaller single ended version of the Type 43. Brown worked on the design of both ships so I think he would be a good authority.
