GA review (see here for criteria)

  1. It is reasonably well written.
    a (prose): b (MoS):
    • In the lead, you use "two-lane rural highway" twice. Can one instance be reworded?
    • The sentence "US 20 enters Indiana with US 12 and US 41, underneath the Indiana Toll Road." sounds awkward.
    • In the first paragraph of the Route description you begin two consecutive sentences with "After". Can one of them be changed?
    • "On the east side of Michigan City US 20 has an interchange with SR 212. Soon after SR 212, US 20 has an interchange with I-94 followed by an intersection with the northern terminus of US 35." Reword one of the instances of "has an interchange".
    • More use of "has an interchange" and "has an intersection" in route description. Can you try to vary the wording?
    • Also a lot of uses of "passes through".
    • You use "US 20" in almost every sentence of the route description. Can you try changing some instances to other words such as "the road" or "the route"?
    • The sentences "US 20 was part of the first alignment of the Lincoln Highway in 1913. From current SR 2 in Rolling Prairie to Elkhart, where the Lincoln Highway turned southeast on to current US 33." should be combined.
    • "One important project was the 1900 to 1910 macadamizing of part of the Old Chicago Road, Northwest Indiana's major auto route between Gary and Michigan City before the Dunes Highway.", try to paraphrase this quote.
    • Can the Dunes Highway information be integrated in the beginning of the history as to describe the route in chronological order?
  2. It is factually accurate and verifiable.
a (references): b (citations to reliable sources): c (OR):
  3. It is broad in its coverage.
    a (major aspects): b (focused):
    • Perhaps mention when US 20 was first designated in lead and when segments of the road were first built.
    • Can some more details about the physical surroundings be added to the route description? For instance, in Northwest Indiana does it pass through residential, commercial, or industrial areas? In the rural areas, does it pass through farmland or woodland? Can some attractions along the route be mentioned?
    • Is there any history of the road from before the Lincoln Highway?
    • Any dates for the future plans of US 20?
  4. It follows the neutral point of view policy.
    Fair representation without bias:
  5. It is stable.
    No edit wars, etc.:
  6. It is illustrated by images, where possible and appropriate.
a (images are tagged and non-free images have fair use rationales): b (appropriate use with suitable captions):
  7. Overall:
    Pass/Fail:

I will put the article on hold for fixes to be made. Dough4872 16:35, 18 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

First I would like to thank you for the review. I have been out of town for the past few days and I fixed some of the problems today. I will fix the other problems tomorrow. Detcin (talk) 03:08, 21 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Replies

  • I fixed the lead problems and added info into the lead.
    • Still need a mention of when US 20 was created. Dough4872 02:22, 23 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
      • I added when US 20 was signed? with all of US 20 being former State Roads. Detcin (talk) 19:15, 24 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Fixed the sentence "US 20 enters Indiana with US 12 and US 41, underneath the Indiana Toll Road." Changed underneath to under, if you would like another change I‘ll change.
  • In the first paragraph of the Route description you begin two consecutive sentences with "After". Changed
  • "On the east side of Michigan City US 20 has an interchange with SR 212. Soon after SR 212, US 20 has an interchange with I-94 followed by an intersection with the northern terminus of US 35."Changed
  • I reword most of the “an intersection with” or “an interchange with”, by add details about the interchange/intersection. (traffic light, Cloverleaf interchange, etc….)
  • I removed as many US 20 as much as possible, removing some in Northwest Indiana would be very confusing with US 12 and US 41 concurrencies and how many turns onto different surface streets that US 20 follows.
  • Try to avoid using "then" in describing progression of route. I removed many “then” with other words.
  • The sentences "US 20 was part of the first alignment of the Lincoln Highway in 1913. From current SR 2 in Rolling Prairie to Elkhart, where the Lincoln Highway turned southeast on to current US 33." combined.
  • The sentence "When the State of Indiana built Bypass 20, New US 20, or the St. Joseph Valley Parkway, the route downtown was decommissioned" fixed.
  • One important project was the 1900 to 1910 macadamizing of part of the Old Chicago Road, Northwest Indiana's major auto route between Gary and Michigan City before the Dunes Highway.", paraphrased.
    • If its paraphrased, quotation marks are not needed. I still find most of the exact wording from the quote that should be changed. Dough4872 02:22, 23 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
      • I think I have paraphrased it?Detcin (talk) 19:15, 24 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Can the Dunes Highway information be integrated in the beginning of the history as to describe the route in chronological order? Done
  • Perhaps mention when US 20 was first designated in lead and when segments of the road were first built. Done
  • Can some more details about the physical surroundings be added to the route description? For instance, in Northwest Indiana does it pass through residential, commercial, or industrial areas? In the rural areas, does it pass through farmland or woodland? Can some attractions along the route be mentioned? Done Northwest Indiana is very hard to tell about the physical surroundings with it being residential a half a block, commercial for the rest of that block, industrial for a block, and so on. I add some attractions
  • Is there any history of the road from before the Lincoln Highway? Dunes Highway/Chicago Road before that it was mostly unpaved and unsigned roads that were little more than very narrow lanes.
    • Any sources for this that could be added to the article? Dough4872 02:22, 23 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
      • This is in the article "the new concrete highway was still superior to most Indiana roads, which in the mid-1920s were gravel or dirt with paved sections only between the larger towns." with two sources. Detcin (talk) 19:15, 24 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Any dates for the future plans of US 20? The planned completion date is 2020, but this could always change.

Sorry about the length of the replies and the delay in fixing the problems.

If I missed something please tell me, I‘m more than willing to fix. Detcin (talk) 01:57, 23 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Made some replies above. Dough4872 02:22, 23 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
