Goodridge vs Herrera
[edit]Whoever put the bit about Gary Goodridge's "controversial" victory over Paul Herrera must either have a bad memory or is a member of Herrera's family. The article states Herrera went for a takedown, and at that point was winning the fight 10-9. First of all, Herrera went for that takedown at the VERY beginning of the fight, so no one was winning at that point. Also, while the UFC was using judges, the 10-point must system had not yet been implemented, so winning 10-9 wasn't even a possibility.
It also says Herrera was trying to setup for an omoplota, which is false. Goodridge immediately transitioned the failed takedown into a crucifix position. The so-called "illegal elbows to the back of Herrera's head" is also completely false. The elbows were clearly to the side of the face (the announce team mentioned numerous times that Herrera may have suffered a broken jaw or cheekbone). Furthermore, even if the elbows were to the back of the head, they would have been completely legal. Blows to the back of an opponent's head were not deemed illegal until UFC 15 in 1997.
Lastly, the article states that Herrera transitioned out of the crucifix and was moving to side mount when Big John McCarthy prematurely stopped the fight. Again, false. Herrera did not escape the cucifix. He was, in fact, knocked out by Goodridge's elbow strikes. The entire fight can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bNqgyoYaqJE
I don't think Youtube is considered a reliable source (maybe I'm wrong), but still, it shows that the information in the article pertaining to this fight is totally untrue. I'm removing it. 76.177.111.10 (talk) 08:28, 26 July 2010 (UTC)
