Redundant[edit]

Isn't a list of notable alumni here a bit redundant with the List of University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign people? Justinm1978 (talk) 21:18, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I can see your point. However, I followed templates used in other pages. The redundancy is acceptable because it keeps all the information on one page. Also, some people may be notable for the purpose of this page and not noteable for the purpose of another page. For example, the UIUC List only includes college chancellors and presidents in academia. The list on this page includes heads of departments. Becoming a head of a department shows thought leadership in an academic field. The College of Business has noted their efforts, but to include all heads of departments in the UIUC list would make the page unwieldy and cumbersome.H.al-shawaf (talk) 21:33, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Broken Reference Links[edit]

I have found out that some of the reference links are broken on this page. I have reached out to the University of Illinois Library to provide new links.38.98.172.58 (talk) 16:35, 28 March 2008 (UTC) H.al-shawaf (talk) 16:35, 28 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Faculty[edit]

I will list important faculty members here for later inclusion into the article.H.al-shawaf (talk) 22:45, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I have just added archive links to 5 external links on UIUC College of Business. Please take a moment to review my edit. If necessary, add {{cbignore}} after the link to keep me from modifying it. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}} to keep me off the page altogether. I made the following changes:

Advertising removed[edit]

I have deleted the bulk of this article which was poorly sourced, unsourced and self-sourced advertising. I didn't get it all--I'm tired of working on it. There is definitely some stuff of interest in the university that has WP:RS, but Wikipedia is not an advertising pamphlet to entice new students to go to the Gies College of Business. This is an encyclopedia. --David Tornheim (talk) 08:37, 20 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Notability of Claudia Saran[edit]

Editors have added Claudia Saran (or Caludia) to the list of notable alumni. She does not have a biography article in this Wikipedia. The reference provided to support inclusion is her KPMG profile - not independent and not confirming she is an alumna. It's simple to find a reference (https://giesbusiness.illinois.edu/news/2016/04/21/lyceum-claudia-saran-kpmg) confirming she is an alumna, although it is not independent. While she may be notable the reference provided is certainly not convincing. Notability is based on the existence of significant published independent reliable sources. The status of positions held does not determine notability. There are some cases where notability is presumed, such as supreme court justices or members of national legislative bodies. Company executives however are not presumed to be notable. I removed her name noting in my edit summary that she has no article, culture officers are not presumed to be notable and the reference provided is not independent. An editor reverted that, claiming that because of her high position at KPMG she is notable and again providing only the KPMG profile reference. As noted above the reference is not evidence of notability. Editors restoring challenged content have the burden of providing the citations necessary for verification and this was not done. So I will again remove her name. It's possible to add names to the list of notables by providing sufficient citations to meet a notability criteria. It is almost always better to write the article first. Gab4gab (talk) 09:39, 20 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
