Namesake?

[edit]

What was the namesake of this ship? Perhaps Paoli, Pennsylvania, but there are many other possibilites listed at Paoli, a disambiguation page. --DThomsen8 (talk) 16:47, 10 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Why are their separate articles on the same ship?

[edit]

In most cases, when a ship serves under two different names, it gets two different sections in one article, yet it appears that someone split this article and the one on the SS Marine Floridian. Why? They are the exact same ship, under two different names! I could maybe see doing this if both sections were lengthy and packed with information. In that case, it would make sense to split them, but only to prevent an overly long and ponderous article. This splits what would be one short article about a WW2 tanker-turned-into-a-commercial-tanker into two stubs about the same exact thing. There is no reason to have two articles on the same ship, except to artificially inflate a count of articles. I'm pretty sure WP policy is to try to minimize number of articles, so when two articles are talking about the same ship under two different names, they should be merged into a single article. One article on a single ship should never be split into two, without very good reasons..45Colt 06:51, 9 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Agree - move here relevant content from SS Marine Floridian, then use that page to redirect to USNS Paoli (T-AO-157). Regards, DPdH (talk) 20:00, 17 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
