Can somebody confirm Commander Raymond W. Johnson (Class of 1930) had command for her first patrol? Blair (Silent Victory, p898) has it John F. Davidson, with Raymond W. Johnson commanding Herring. Trekphiler 10:11, 15 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I realize that this is far from authoritatively documented information but I'll throw it in for what it's worth: A friend of mine who was also a personal friend of Admiral Davidson tells me that the Admiral told him that he (Admiral Davidson) was in command of Blackfish during her support of Operation Torch. Furthermore, the same source provides the information that one of Blackfish's roles in Operation Torch was that of a "submersible lighthouse", remaining on the surface with searchlight alight to provide a beacon for the assembling invasion force.24.7.140.83 (talk) 20:59, 15 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I forgot to be sure I was logged in before adding the previous append so it game out without signature. Sorry.OldVato (talk) 21:09, 15 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Improperly sourced edit

[edit]

I appreciate your change to my edit. I have now provided a source. I understand it is a primary source available online but I believe it meets the verifiability standard as it is being used only for factual material and not for any matter of interpretation. If I am incorrect and this falls under original research and the revision need to be removed again, I understand completely. Just wanted the entry to be more complete.
