The Elokomin AO-55 served during the Cubin Missal Crises taking fuel from Norfolk Virginia and Jacksonville Florida to the Quarantine line around Cuba while keeping an eye out for ships that were coming and leaving from the island. At one point they encountered a Russian submarine that appeared on starboard side while fueling a destroyer. The Jos P. Kennedy immediately came between the two vessels and the submarine left the area. (Mrsvw (talk) 20:31, 16 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
