VM "The Voice of Music" is from my hometown Benton Harbor, MI. I remember a couple of old guys removing heavy steel turntable stamping dies (with a "super-old!" antique gasoline lift truck) on pallets, with various types of heavy production line equipment. I was standing there on Territorial when the old guys cleared out an entire building sometime in the late 80s. VM had other buildings in the area, and I remember the turntable parts, early turntables, a reciever and vaguely the reel to reel recorders. I vaguely remember surplus cassette mechanisms and fresh un-used turntables without the wood case. Because of Heath Company, "Heathkit", Tons of electronic surplus parts was available, and VM parts will be seen sometimes together. A lot of S-W Michigan people know electronics, Electrovoice in Buchanan, MI is another audio electronics manufacturer close to Benton Harbor, MI. Growing up, around all of the electronic surplus parts, in a post-manufacturing era, a kid has nothing to do, but play with transistor circuits, and make stuff.

  • I have removed references to "stereo" equipment, because VM went farther back--it mfd. monaural turntables included in RCA Victor "hi-fi" consoles from the early '50s, for instance. Unfortunately, as I don't know much more than that, I can't indicate whether VM's production of any of the other specified gear came only during the stereo era. Drhoehl 22:44, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
