Name of the article

[edit]

Since it was the explosion of a Swedish castle it might be reasonable to use Swedish name. On the other hand if it is only notable as part of the Finnish folklore the Finnish name might be appropriate. Could you provide any reliable references that the blast is indeed notable in Finnish folklore.

There is also another issue. After the movement of the Vyborg blast to Viipuri blast the reverse movement was made impossible without using admin tools by adding history to the redirects (moving them around). According to Wikipedia:Requests_for_arbitration/AndriyK#Reversal_of_irreversible_page_moves such moves can be reversed on sight without filling WP:RM notion. I am not sure if it was intentional but please do not do it again. I do not want to interfere with you dispute over the article name, but I deleted the history of the redirects so everybody could move it to whatever place you decide. Still, please, discuss the move rather than move war. Alex Bakharev 23:57, 7 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Most of the details I wrote to the article are from an English brochure published by an organization (abbreviated) WIO (their website: http://www.helsinki.fi/jarj/wio/ - however, the English brochure seems not to be available online). In that material, it is called "Viipuri Blast". Their material is clearly based on Finnish folklore - that organization, by the way, has published plenty of local Karelian folklore, for example in its periodicals named "Kaukomieli". I also want to note that Finnish sources themselves use "Viborg blast" see e.g. [1], while Google search on "Viipuri blast" gives only wikipedia and its clone Answers.com. Alex Bakharev 00:10, 8 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It seems to me that one editor continuously moves this to Russian spelling, "Vyborg". Without discussion. Am I right in guessing that the said editor is Russian, indeed? I am of the opinion that at least such moves can be reverted on sight. Shilkanni 22:44, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I am the original primary author of this article, and seeing the campaign filled with ndiscussed moves to strange names, I think I will keep my WP privilege to say what the article name will be, in absence of convincing evidence of another name being in much larger and widespread English-language use. You have no "privileges" here per WP:OWN. --Ghirla -трёп- 18:14, 13 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
