The Battleship Iowa[edit]

Strange that no one mentioned the weird coincidence on the fictional fate of the Iowa and the real-life events on the actual ship. In the novel, the Iowa was sold for scrap, but quietly retrofitted for a terrorist operation. One of the turrets is hit by a missile, severely damaging one of the guns. When the guns are inadvertently fired, the damaged gun breaches, causing an explosion of the turret and the subsequent explosion of the entire ship when the magazines go up. The events of the book were to have taken place in 1988.

In reality, the Iowa was modernized and recommissioned in the 1980's. On April 19, 1989, an explosion (of disputed cause) within one of its turrets resulted in the death of 47 sailors. USS Iowa turret explosion

Too many creepy linkages between the events! 24.52.254.232 (talk) 05:56, 5 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
