OEM
So what is the relation to OEM (Original Equipment Manufacture) products? I thought those were unbranded generic equipment sold to other firms and re-branded as their own. Surely the same concept? Is 'white label' used for software and products such as chocolate and creams and OEM used for machines? 109.144.241.73 (talk) 10:39, 24 November 2012 (UTC)
Digital Age
"With the digital age comes also the opportunity for white label software. Rebranding a product has never been easier as it only takes a couple of edits in a photo editing program like Photoshop to make a software become white labelled and ready to be sold. One of the pioneers in software development SPAMfighter provides white label software and have already sold over 2.5 mio licences through their partner program. White label software should not be mistaken for a reseller program or even affiliate program as many people do but a way to get your own company name on a piece of software that fits well into your portfolio."
Not quite sure what this is meant to be saying - feels like it's not saying anything. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lwotton (talk • contribs) 21:58, 16 December 2012 (UTC)
- I removed it -- it was added on Dec 3, and smells like an advert to me. 63.251.123.2 (talk) 20:23, 3 January 2013 (UTC)
Merge
This should be merged with White Label. Blutfink (talk) 16:53, 28 August 2009 (UTC)
- Not really. The other is about the records specifically, this is about all such products, though it has a lot about the records. It could for example include American chocolatiers, who usually don't actually make the chocolate they use, but buy it in bulk from one of three wholesale companies. Their value added is that they shape it into chocolate bunnies or put in little flavored fillings, however they often pour it into bars, and brand it as their own. --Quintucket (talk) 22:52, 17 January 2012 (UTC)
- Agreed. White label goes far beyond simply records, it's very common as a monetization strategy in B2B Internet web services for instance. 84.114.24.220 (talk) 15:36, 15 April 2012 (UTC)
History section not the history of white label brands
The History section which attributes the name "white label" to the record industry cites an article which contains nothing about the white labels used for consumer goods for manufacturers to rebrand. My contention is that the simple use of the words "white label" is not enough to allow that what happened with demo records has anything whatever to do with white label goods in the sense of this article.
So the History section should be deleted until somebody can actually provide the real history of white labelled consumer goods. Silas Maxfield (talk) 20:35, 9 September 2017 (UTC)
