The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
To not merge as propsoed; renaming and other proposals for expansion were mentioned, but without consensus on other points, with discussion stale. Klbrain (talk) 14:43, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

SVNS, formerly titled World Rugby Sevens Series, is the older and better-sourced article. Wikishovel (talk) 01:14, 27 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Wikishovel, thanks for the message. Worth thinking about. Will need to make a few big changes though. I think it would be better if the page SVNS was renamed Legacy World Rugby Sevens Series (men’s) and Legacy World Sevens Series (Women’s) as World Rugby SVNS Series is a new tournament by World Rugby which will take over the old Sevens series. The new SVNS series merges both Men and Women’s tournaments together and has a new structure and tournament ethos. Let us know your thoughts, all the best. :) TracyJeff (talk) 01:32, 27 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi TracyJeff, something definitely needs to be done and that seems a sensible solution. It would also bring it in line with the World Rugby Sevens Challenger Series. Kind regards Njg (talk) 22:27, 30 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Since separate articles have already been created and there is a clear before/after point, they may as well stay separate, although a single article could have been adapted to reflect the changes too. I don't think a rename for article for the older series should include 'Legacy' unless it is being specifically referred to as such in the media - the tournament names are sufficiently different to make it fairly obvious, and the lead should make it clear too that it is discontinued and the other is its replacement. I would strongly recommend splitting the SVNS into men's and women's articles - perhaps the existing would be OK as an overview for both, but it will become too complicated and fiddly for navigation to record results for the two strands in one place as the years pass, so any subsequent articles for either each year or each location should have men's and women's. Hi Njg and Crowsus. Really lovely to meet you both and thank you so much for replying. Completely agree with all your points. 1) RE : the term “legacy” I checked again on the SVNS website and World Rugby themselves have differentiated between the two series as Legacy and SVNS. There’s even a link which says “Want to see the previous winners of the legacy HSBC Sevens Series? Check out the HSBC Sevens Series Website.” 2) I agree I think we should have an overview page called “SVNS” which talks about the new series, highlighting the fact that both men and women’s tournaments are unified. Maybe renaming this one? 3) I completely agree with Crowsus that we should separate the men and women’s seasons making it easier in terms of results and stats. 4) I completely agree with Njg about bringing in line the challenger series as it plays a massive part in the final event in Madrid. In terms of page structure what ideas do you guys have? Would definitely love to collaborate with both of you on this. :) TracyJeff (talk) 17:28, 6 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
