Not all US-imported M57s have a manual safety as shown in the current photograph. I own one without that manual safety, which instead has a Glock-like trigger safety.

trying to find the value of a zastava Yugoslavian M-57 7.62mm x25 semi- automatic pistol. I would say that if the nra rated this pistol it would be around 95 % condition.

Safeties[edit]

I own an M57 purchased in 2020 without the manual safety shown in the photograph. Instead, it has a trigger safety, a la the safety of a Glock. K7aay (talk) 09:37, 7 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Multiple retro-fit safeties have been fitted to Tokarev pistols from Yugoslavia and other sources. In order to be imported to the US a pistol must have a sufficiently high number of "points' under the Gun Control Act of 1968's scoring system. A manual safety of some sort is worth multiple points (as are such things as "target" grips, adjustable sights, etc) which means importers often refit pistols with cheap parts that satisfy the letter of the law of the GCA '68. Unfortunately many importers of Tokarevs went with the crude thumb safety, meaning that there is a large ugly hole in the side of the frame that can not be easily patched, which collectors do not like in the least. The Glock-style safety-in-the-trigger can simply be switched out for the original trigger, thus making these pistols more attractive/valuable to collectors. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.241.79.130 (talk) 11:49, 27 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
