Whether or not his is helpful, my maternal grandparents, John Elias Allan and Selma Slaiby Allan, were from Zweitina. They moved to the United States around the time of World War I, ending up in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. My grandfather sent money back to the village over time and helped to build a school there. In 1922, my mother was born there on a return visit. Almost all of our relatives on that side of the family that emigrated to the US are currently in Wilkes-Barre and Allentown.
The village is predominantly Syrian Orthodox, or Antiochan Orthodox, which is related to Greek Orthodox and differs slightly from Eastern Rite Catholicism, such as Maronite.
