Template:Cite taxon/doc

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This template aims to provide a standard way of referencing taxonomic databases. It uses module:Cite taxon. The module was created as module:FishRef to generate {{cite web}} references to the Catalog of Fishes database. The capabilities were extended to handle other fish-related references, hence the original module name, and the system now covers a number of taxonomic databases covering amphibia, reptiles, birds, mammals and plants, as well as a few invertebrate and general databases.

The template provides a wrapper to the cite web system, which means that the references can also include general cite web parameters (e.g. |mode=cs1|2 or |quote=TEXT). The module provides the information for website/database, authors/editors and generates default links and titles based on provided parameters such as |id=, |species=, |genus=, |family=, |taxon=. In all cases the link and title can be overridden with |url= and |title=.
