Template:Csoc link/doc
This is a documentation subpage for Template:Csoc link. It may contain usage information, categories and other content that is not part of the original template page. |
Due to a server limit of 500 "expensive parser function" calls (e.g. #ifexist:, PAGESIZE:, and PAGESINCATEGORY:), this template will only work properly if the page using it has not already exceeded the limit. When the limit is exceeded, the page using this template or module is categorised in Category:Pages with too many expensive parser function calls. (further information) |
This template will allow you to link to a college soccer team page that may not yet exist. It will display the best available link.
For example, if I want to link to the article about the 2016 Wisconsin Badgers men's soccer team that may or may not exist, I would make this call:
{{csoc link|2016|sex=men|team=Wisconsin Badgers|school=University of Wisconsin–Madison|title=Wisconsin}}
This would yield: Wisconsin
Important - whitespace cannot be included or it will be added to the wiki link and it will not function properly. Also, please use an en dash as the year separator.
Parameters
[edit]parameter | meaning |
---|---|
year or 1= (optional) | Supply a year if you want to link to the yearly page, e.g., 2018 for the 2018 Maryland Terrapins men's soccer team article. |
sex | men or women - defaults to men |
team | The athletics program article for this school, e.g., Akron Zips, Stanford Cardinal, Texas Longhorns, etc. For schools that add "Lady" to the name of their women's teams (e.g., Old Dominion Lady Monarchs) and have both names in the athletics program article (e.g., Old Dominion Monarchs and Lady Monarchs), it can be necessary to include only the women's team name in this parameter in order for the template to yield the expected result. (In this case, also omit the "sex" parameter.) |
school | The main article for this school, e.g., University of Akron, University of Virginia |
title (optional) | The display name for this link. Usually, this will be the common name for the school (without "university"), like Duke, Florida State, Virginia Tech, etc. If left blank, the link will be non-piped, i.e., it will display the name of the article linked to. |
Examples
[edit]{{csoc link|2016|sex=men|team=Akron Zips|school=University of Akron|title=Akron}} | Akron |
{{csoc link|2016|team=North Carolina Tar Heels|sex=women|school=University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill|title=North Carolina}} | North Carolina |
{{csoc link|team=UC Santa Barbara Gauchos|sex=men|school=University of California, Santa Barbara|title=UCSB}} | UCSB |
When the template should not be used
[edit]To help limit the calls to #ifexist, it is strongly recommended that a direct link be used for specific team season articles instead of this template. Thus,
{{Csoc link|2018|team=Michigan State Spartans|school=Michigan State University|title=Michigan State}}
should be changed to
[[2018 Michigan State Spartans men's soccer team|Michigan State]]
once that page is written. Templates used in cases such as this are listed at Category:Excessive uses of csoc link and should be changed as described.
