Template:GeoPfad/doc

This template is designed to link the geographical coordinates of linear features like trails, routes, courses (for georeferencing rivers, railway lines, motorways, running routes etc.) or area features (like nature reserves etc.), that have been created in KML and KMZ data formats.

Function

For the coordinates of linear and area features there are tools on the web like those for point coordinates. But it is not possible to load this comprehensive data to Commons or Wikipedia.

The template therefore provides a linking solution to Google Maps, in order to present the coordinates even for non-users of Google Earth. As soon as there is a toolserver page for route coordinates, this template can easily be re-routed to that page.

Please do not use groups of points that do not represent a route (e.g. reservoirs in the Alps); they need their own template.
