Template:Residential College Alum/doc

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Usage

[edit]

Based on Template:Alum but with sortability, a (sortable) 'field' field (prepended to notability in same cell, with italics and a non-italic colon), more space for the name over the notability (to allow a bit more room for titles) and 'Class Year' to 'Entered' as residential colleges may have members in residence for a variable number of years, leaving permanently before they graduate or returning for extended periods of time. However, signing the register (or matriculating, etc.) forms a definitive, common point of reference for many colleges, in this situation.

This should be used in the same manner as Template:Alum, but with the inclusion of a 'field' field. Suggested fields already used:

  • Academia (inc. University offices)
  • Diplomacy (ambassadors, foreign office)
  • Law
  • Medicine
  • Military
  • Politics
  • Religion
  • Sport

These may be doubled up by using a, b, for example,

Academia, Politics: Former Vice-Chancellor of the University of X, later Minister for Education.

It also looks quite nice to have the table initially sorted by this field and sub-sorted by name or year, to ease scanning across alumni in similar fields or vocations, e.g. in Knox College, Otago.
