The High Cascades is the northernmost region of volcanic activity in California. It is the Cascades' main range and consists of most of the active and more preserved volcanoes, which include most of the stratovolcanoes in the arc.

The Sierra Nevada range has more examples of California's volcanic areas, such as the Pluto, Round Top (Alpine County), Yosemite, Little Walker, Mono-Inyo, Mammoth, Long Valley, and Golden Trout Creek volcanoes.

The Coast Ranges contain volcanic fields, lava domes, cinder cones, and at least one stratovolcano. The most notable are the Sutter, Clear Lake, Saint Helena, and Cup & Saucer volcanoes.
