Template:Wd-ceo/doc

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Shows the current CEO of a company, using data from wikidata.

Usage[edit]

wd-ceo → Kevin Murphy (CEO) Edit this on Wikidata

Normal usage is to use wd-ceo in the infobox:

You can specify the wikidata entry, but you shouldn't need to:

Changing the CEO[edit]

When using this template, you can change the CEO on Wikidata:

  • Click the edit pencil to go to Wikidata
  • Remove the old CEO by setting an "end time" qualifier ("edit" their entry in the CEO section, and click "add qualifier").
    • If you don't know when they stopped being CEO, click the three boxes (to the left of the text input) and set "unknown value".
  • Add the new CEO by clicking "add value" at the bottom of the "chief executive officer" section.
    • Type the name of the new CEO.
    • If they're not listed, you might need to "create new item" to add a new wikidata item for them
    • Don't forget to add a "start time" for them, if possible.

Doesn't fit?[edit]

For unusual situations (eg: there's a CEO delegate, or acting CEO), you could:

Add extra text
Setting "end time" on the wikidata entry will cause wd-ceo to display nothing.
You could then add additional text to the infobox as a replacement:
ie:
wd-chairperson
or:

Replace the template with text
Wikipedia should be correct, so make it correct and don't feel bad:
ie:
wd-chairperson
If possible, set "end time" on the wikidata entry anyway (as this will help other wikidata users, such as wikipedia in other languages)

I tagged an executive chairman like this: https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q6108019#P488

Why bother?[edit]

  • Corrections show up on other-language wikis: here is an example of the data being used on the French wikipeida.
  • Using start date and end date means we start to record a history of changes over time
