splitting out names

My problem is it has split the output. Basically, it looks like: °
F

If tried {{nowrap}} it has round all of it, not just the output. It really needs °‍F (and °‍C for input)(or v.v.). That would be always OK, not just in break.

I think you are saying that the results from some converts can have bad line breaks within the output part of the convert. Or is it just for those that convert temperature? I'll put a convert at the end of this line as an example, and show the details of that convert in the next line. 100 °C (212 °F)
  • {{convert|100|C}} → 100 °C (212 °F) → 100 °C (212 °F)
Where did you see this? I have seen ZWJ used from time to time, but it's a bit mysterious and have no idea how it works on all browsers. I would prefer not to clutter units with such markup unless there is a common problem. My feeling in general is that if there is something wrong with the html output, there should be a fix to MediaWiki to do the right thing. Johnuniq (talk) 22:43, 18 February 2016 (UTC)

kW-hrs -> kWh for electric cars

After a discussion over at Talk:electric car we've decided to change the appearance of units from kW-hrs/100 miles to kWh/100 miles to make it more international (although miles aren't particularly international either).

So I changed it here in Module:Convert/documentation/conversion_data/doc but it doesn't seem to have automatically actioned (for example see Template:Comparison electric car efficiency, you still find kW-hrs from the converts in the table. Do I have to do anything else?GliderMaven (talk) 15:43, 24 February 2016 (UTC)

The data module needs to be manually updated to change the way units work. Please don't do that without a bunch of discussion first because others such as myself may have minor tweaks in mind that are also wanted, and it highly desirable that all such changes be made at the same time. A quick workaround is to make a new unit and put it in Module:Convert/extra, but that's only useful if the new unit code is needed in just a few places. The edits to insert the new unit code would be reverted when the main data module was updated later. Johnuniq (talk) 20:49, 24 February 2016 (UTC)
In this case it's a very minor change to an existing unit, so would overriding it work? It's essentially a minor display difference for the unit name.GliderMaven (talk) 21:53, 24 February 2016 (UTC)
If a unit code is defined within convert, it will not look anywhere else. Therefore an existing unit code cannot be overriden. The extra units provide a temporary workaround, but only for unit codes that are not already defined. There are some extra units at the moment and I would have to find some quiet time to examine them and determine if they are needed. Then the main units could be updated with your change and the wanted extra units. Sorry, but that will take at least a week. Johnuniq (talk) 23:48, 24 February 2016 (UTC)
No problem, I don't think it's urgent.GliderMaven (talk) 00:23, 25 February 2016 (UTC)
OK, please post again if I forget (it's a bit hectic here)... Johnuniq (talk) 00:31, 25 February 2016 (UTC)
