Template:Image copyright request[edit]

I agree this is a little too long. We should be directing the users how to put templates on, not to copy and paste the GFDL text from the template, for example, put the tag {{GFDL}} on. Also give the tags for the other licences you mention. I might do this if I get a chance.--michael180 13:57, August 19, 2005 (UTC)

There are 3 basic ways to licence an image on Wikipedia:

Fair use is not a license.

The copyright holder gets the best protection of his work by licencing their work under an open content license like the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike licence.

There is no consensus on the so-called "best" license.

Images from certain sources are automatically release into the Public Domain. This is true for most governments like the federal United States government.

I was just trying to make it more user friendly.

I agree with the part about who is the copyright holder not being nessary. Someone else put that in, I don't like it.

Reguarding Image:Aurora-rye.jpg: I made it. I don't know how to edit it, but could someone please set it as a "logo" because it is the logo for my Project. thank you

Under an open content licence
Releaced into the Public Domain
Allowed because of Fair Use

About the best licence, if you can find a beter way to say that, fine. Also you could say :Most work, in the open source community, inclding Wikipedia, is licenced under..."

Image legality questions[edit]

The Untagged images project is going to start a new help page for people that get their images tagged as no source, or no license (see discussion [1]) At Wikipedia:Image legality questions. {{image copyright}}, {{image source}} and Orphanbot's message will all point there as a centralized clearing house for questions so that they don't sit on individuals talk pages for long, and to help with the automated notifications. - cohesion^t 06:12, 27 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Done But note that interwikis and cstegories should go on the template documentation, which is unprotected. The {{PD-self}} is a "see also". Just a license note for users who are unsure how to upload their own work most likely. You could ask the creator (under the template's "history" link).
