Why not discuss possibilities to improve the template? The idea was to introduce some consistency. One variant:

I think what we would love is something you can roll your mouse over and it give you the details... I think it's something that COULD establish consistency, but we need have examples of where it would be used first. For instance, if we head over to the following articles:

The fields required and their ordering is different, but yes it's currently not consistent. As we see in Kippah, it may be benificial to extend this for multiple languages, but maybe that's overload. Hebrew is a special language of course, but not special enough to have its very own template. I played a little with this template, put it on a couple of pages, but essentially it's not necessary. I'm also against pages like English words of Spanish origin - that's what categories are for.

What could be nice is a proper etymology template, but it would have to be much more complicated than "original spelling/transcription/translation". Sorry, i still support deletion.--Amir E. Aharoni 07:07, 22 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I respect your opinion, but this particular one is not etymology. I don't get what does it mean: "a special language", or what the relation to English words of Spanish origin. As User:jnothman noted above, various articles contain inconsistent combination of original spelling, transcription(s), translation, plural, doublequotes/smartquotes/italics/boldfont, etc. Shouldn't we attempt to make it all consistent? ←Humus sapiens ←ну? 07:23, 22 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

If it's not etymology, then what is it? Actually, maybe you're right and true etymology belongs in a dictionary and an encyclopedia needs something simpler. I have to think about it.

"A special language" - why do Hebrew terms need their own template? I'm all for generic templates.

Relation to English words of Spanish origin - i prefer categories, which are automatic, to lists. You didn't create a list, so it's OK, but it might be a good idea to create a category Hebrew terms and put it in the template, so that it adds every page automatically to the category.--Amir E. OK, so it already exists. It is possible to put Category:Hebrew words into the template, so it will be inserted automatically. Bad idea[edit]

Please don't use this template. Use individual templates for Hebrew terms and their transliteration. Use {{Ivrit}} (compare {{Ar}}) for text in Hebrew alphabet, Use {{Semxlit}} for transliterations of Semitic. There can be {{HebrewISO}} or similar once people sort out Hebrew transliteration standards (compare {{ArabDIN}}). dab (ᛏ) 16:02, 17 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
