WikiProject Inline Templates

[edit]

This page indicates where some of the work of WikiProject Inline Templates can be directed. However, Template:Inline tags, the project page WP:INLINE, and the Category:Inline templates have dramatically different versions of what templates are included (navbox, list, category). I am working on standardization and this will include significant changes to all three pages. Discussion should probably centralize at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Inline Templates. Date parameters

[edit]
Resolved

Why do some of the listed templates included at date parameter as part of the wikicode while others don't? Compare {{tl|Attribution needed|date=January 2012}} and {{tl|Citation needed}} Senator2029let's talk19:59, 19 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I can't see how the date parameter would be useful. The date parameter was set in the page's initial version by the template's author, User:RJHall. As the author is now retired, I'm talking the liberty to remove these parameters. I also removed 2 more template-specific parameters which probably don't contribute anything to Tl. --Chealer (talk) 23:13, 9 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
For convenience, this is the edit which Chealer is referring to. He was right. There was no need for that code to be there. Marking this topic as resolved. Jason Quinn (talk) 17:10, 11 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Title

[edit]

This is named "Inline cleanup tags" since November 2014. I fail to see why "cleanup" was added. Perhaps the intention was to explain the purpose of the tags, i.e. to indicate possible improvements, and Wikipedia:Template messages/Cleanup was used for inspiration. But these tags go beyond cleanup. They do not merely flag "issues", they also allow "requests for enhancements". For examples, How, Why, Expand acronym. I suggest finding a better word to specify ("improvement"?), or just going back to the original title. --Chealer (talk) 06:33, 29 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The move was made by User:Sardanaphalus, who is still active and could maybe offer their rationale. Are there any inline tags that are not the so-called "cleanup" tags that might cause confusion? Unless there are, I too would prefer just "Inline tags". Since Template:Inline tags's history consists solely of the redirect created by the move, it would be easy to do a move over redirect to go back to the old naming. In the grand scheme of things, the name of this template is of minor importance. But "Inline tags" is less confusing and shorter so it may be worth the effort to change it.
