Suggest an alt= parameter
[edit]I proposed adding a "ship position" link at the top of ship articles, analogous to "Coordinates" on place (and shipwreck!) articles. Initially I proposed this in the context of {{Infobox ship}}, but ultimately have been using {{MarineTraffic}}. There are details and discussion at Template talk:Infobox ship begin#Position info available. The wording "Ship information and current position at MarineTraffic.com" is a bit lengthy for this purpose; something like "Ship position & info" is perhaps preferable. (Examples of use of the full template and a direct link to the MarineTraffic Web site are in Template talk:Infobox ship begin#Position info available.) To facilitate this, I'd suggest adding a parameter to {{MarineTraffic}} to allow the text to be altered, something like {{marinetraffic|imo=1234567|alt=Position & information}}
. Or maybe it's better to use the full "Ship information and current position at MarineTraffic.com"? Or simply not to add position information at the top of ship articles? Pol098 (talk) 11:26, 13 May 2016 (UTC)
- Ephemeral data from an external primary source belongs in the "External links" section of the article, not at the top or in the infobox. --Ahecht (TALK
