"You should too!"
[edit]This sort of cheapens it for me. Sort of like a salesperson who tries too hard when the product sells itself. I wonder if you could approach this with a bit more of your personal style. You're not selling used cars. I know this is common phrasing, but I'm wondering if you can do something different. Viriditas (talk) 11:31, 23 January 2016 (UTC)
- I'm open to doing that, but a good alternative does not spring immediately to my mind. I would welcome suggestions. --Tryptofish (talk) 18:23, 23 January 2016 (UTC)
- One thing that occurs to me is that anyone who wants to can simply modify the box to one's own preference. (I've done this for some of the boxes on my userpage.) In this case, the underlying Wikitext of the userbox is:
{{Userbox|id=[[File:No not.png|45px]]|id-s=14|info=This user has [[WP:RNO|opted out of revert notifications]]. You should, too!|border-c=#A3B1BF|border-s=2|info-c=#F5FAFF|id-c=#CEE0F2}}
- If you want, just copy that to your page (instead of the template name), but delete the sentence "You should, too!", or perhaps change it to something else. In the spirit of "anyone can edit", I actually like the idea of other editors doing that. --Tryptofish (talk) 18:32, 23 January 2016 (UTC)
- How about: "Try it!"? --Tryptofish (talk) 21:42, 23 January 2016 (UTC)

- Old coot that I am, I assume that means good to go, so if I'm wrong, do tell. Coming soon to a computer near you: Template:User RNO alt. --Tryptofish (talk) 20:54, 24 January 2016 (UTC)
- You're only as old as you feel. Which template wording do you prefer and why? Will this matter several hundred years from now? Viriditas (talk) 10:23, 25 January 2016 (UTC)
- The answer to your last question is very easy: no! Which is why there are now two versions of the template: Template:User RNO and Template:User RNO alt. I chose the first for me, because I don't think it makes me sound like a used car salesfish. It tells viewers that I think they should too, and that's my opinion. But the other version is available too, so anyone who is interested has a choice. --Tryptofish (talk) 22:22, 25 January 2016 (UTC)
- Forgive me, I assumed you were a secular humanist like myself. In which case, "you should too" borders on religious proselytizing and violates basic tenets of critical thinking and cognitive liberty. :-) Viriditas (talk) 00:29, 26 January 2016 (UTC)
- Alas, no, I'm just a fish. ;-) --Tryptofish (talk) 00:32, 26 January 2016 (UTC)
- A talking fish, no less! I guess that answers the question, if fish could talk, what would they say? Viriditas (talk) 00:35, 26 January 2016 (UTC)
