Tengger Cavalry is a Folk Rock/Metal band based in Peking, China.[1] They combine elements of traditional music of Mongolia with heavy metal into a kind of folk metal they refer to as Nomadic Folk Metal.[2]

History

Tengger Cavalry was originally founded in March 2010 as one-man project[3] by Nature Ganganbaigal.[4] The band is named after the ancient Mongolian and Turkic deity Tengri.

The first international review of the debut demo album Blood Sacrifice Shaman by German heavy metal magazine Legacy in 2011 was cautiously optimistic about the band’s potential.[5] Later MTV and The Daily Rock did more positive reviews of the first album.[3]

In 2012 a feature by UK magazine Terrorizer gave the band a wider international audience.[6] Meanwhile, another UK magazine Metal Hammer commented the album is exotic and epic.[7]

In 2014 Tengger Cavalry released their third album Ancient Call. Metal Hammer was again drawn to the new album and Ancient Call received high acclaim;[8] Ancient Call also got reviews from various international media such as Metal.De,[9] CdTest.De,[10] and Twilight-Magazine.[11]

In 2015 the band released the album Blood Sacrifice Shaman, which received attention from Metal Hammer,[12] Revolver,[13] Legacy, Noisey,[1] Chicago Reader[14] and other international recognized media. In October, CNN did an interview with the band. On December 24, the group's debut concert at Carnegie Hall was featured on Noisey, The Village Voice, Loudwire and New York Times.
