Tereza Helena Gabrielli Barreto Campello (born August 12, 1962) is a Brazilian economist graduated from the Federal University of Uberlândia. She was the minister of Social Development and Fight against Hunger during the government of President Dilma Rousseff.

Biography

Campello was born in Descalvado, in the state of São Paulo. Her career in public administration began in Rio Grande do Sul, where she participated in the governments Raul Pont and Tarso Genro, former mayors of Porto Alegre, and Olívio Dutra, as mayor and state governor.[1]

In Brasília, she assisted the transition team of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in 2002. Campello was the deputy chief of articulation and monitoring of the Chief of Staff, in which she coordinated government projects such as the National Biodiesel Program. She participated in the creation of Bolsa Família.[2]

Ministry of Social Development and Fight against Hunger

Campello was appointed by the president-elect Dilma Rousseff to the Ministry of Social Development and Fight against Hunger.[3]

In September 2014, she criticized the Tribunal de Contas da União (Federal Court of Accounts), after that court released a report claiming the poverty line was not updated by the Ministry of Social Development and Fight against Hunger so as to appear that the number of poor people in the country reduced.[4][5]

On December 31, 2014 Campello was confirmed to remain in charge of the portfolio for the second Rousseff government.[6] She was exonerated from the office of minister on May 12, 2016, due to the impeachment of Dilma Rousseff.[7]
