The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is an upcoming science fiction novel by American author Suzanne Collins. It is a spin-off and a prequel to The Hunger Games. It is set to be released May 19, 2020, published by Scholastic. An audiobook of the novel read by American actor Santino Fontana is scheduled to be released simultaneously with the printed edition.[1]

Film adaptation

On June 17, 2019, Joe Drake, Chairman of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, announced in an interview that the company is communicating and working closely with Suzanne Collins with regards to an adaptation of The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, stating:

As the proud home of the Hunger Games movies, we can hardly wait for Suzanne’s next book to be published. We’ve been communicating with her during the writing process and we look forward to continuing to work closely with her on the movie.[2]
