The Bewdley School (formerly known as The Bewdley School & Sixth Form Centre)[3] is a foundation comprehensive secondary school and sixth form in Bewdley, serving north-west Worcestershire, England. Its campus is very close to the River Severn and lies on the border of the Wyre Forest national nature reserve.[4]

History

The Bewdley School has its origins in the Bewdley County Secondary School which opened in April 1956. In 1972 the area adopted a three-tier system, and the school became Bewdley High School. When the area returned to a two-tier system in 2007, the High School was amalgamated with the two local middle schools to form The Bewdley School.[5]

Present day

The school was inspected by OFSTED in 2012, where it was found to be'Good with outstanding features'.[6] In January 2016, OFSTED reconfirmed during a short inspection under their new framework that The Bewdley School remains to be Good, following on from the longer section five report.[7][8]

The Bewdley School is a member of Stourport and Haybridge school centered initial teacher training groups, a collection of outstanding 'model' schools used to train new teachers in partnership with University of Worcester.[9].

In September 2009, The Bewdley School gained Specialist Art college status. This specialism was later awarded the Arts Mark Gold Award for excellent practice amongst the department.[10]

In 2017, 76% of Bewdley students achieved a GCSE grade 4 (old C) or above in English and 71% a 4 (old C) or above in Maths.[11] The Bewdley School achieved 90% of A Level students gaining three or more A*-C grades.

Name Change

In April 2017, a name change was proposed by the new head teacher to shorten the schools title to The Bewdley School. This was agreed upon by parents and governors in September 2017.[3] The Bewdley School continues to have a sixth form. A new school logo was introduced in May 2018.[12]
