"The Bottle Let Me Down" is a song written and recorded by American country music artist Merle Haggard and The Strangers. It was released in August 1966 as the second single from the album Swinging Doors. The song peaked at number three on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Singles.[1]

Hank Williams III recorded his version of the song, although it was never released in a studio album. It was, however, released in 2012 without Williams' permission by his former label, Curb Records. Williams had become estranged from Curb by this time, and he did not support Curb's decision to release old material without his permission.[3] Instead, Williams encouraged his fans not to buy any of Curb's music.
